Post-Race Analysis:
Dade City, Florida - March 11, 2007: High Hope Stable's Riddle,
making his first start in 16 months, caught pacesetter Hidden Key
at the second-to-last fence and sprinted home late to win the $40,000
Founders' Cup at the Little Everglades Steeplechase. Trained by
Arch Kingsley and ridden by Jody Petty, the 6-year-old son of Wagon
Limit showed no ill effects of the layoff. Stall-bound for months,
Riddle gradually worked back to racing fitness and improved to 4-for-6
lifetime over jumps. Chivite (Ire) closed late for second while
Toughkenamon finished third. The winner established a new stakes
record of 3:38.2 for the 2 1/8 mile race, besting the previous mark
of 3:38.4 established by Meadow (NZ) last year.

Former steeplechase jockey Arch Kingsley,
shown here after winning a stakes race at Saratoga earlier
this decade, sent Riddle out to win the Founders' Cup at Little
Everglades.
|
Winning trainer Arch Kingsley is developing a knack for winning
stakes races at Little Everglades, as the former steeplechase jockey
won the inaugural running of the feature race at the Dade City oval
aboard War Talk in 2001.
Other winners on the day were Anne Haynes' Summersville in the
opener, a $15,000 maiden claiming hurdle, for trainer Bruce Haynes.
The winner raced near the front throughout and outran Sheriff Dillon,
Ninety Day Note and Love That Rhythm late.
In the second, Lone Lane Farm's Swimming River skipped away from
the field on the backstretch and went on to win a $15,000 maiden
hurdle over Class Deputy while Biblos (Arg) finished third.
Move Up Stable's 10-year-old River Bed outran six younger rivals
to take the $20,000 optional claiming hurdle for trainer Kathy McKenna
and jockey Carl Rafter. The winner pounced on leader Jimmie Echo
late and then held off Class Concern and Sermon Of Love to get the
win.
The Florida-bred flat race went to ITB Racing Stable's Hup Two,
while Augustin Stable's Cliffrose (Ger) won the finale, a training
flat race, in a photo over stablemate Dirge.
Edited from NSA press release.
The complete order of finish for the Founders' Cup is set forth
